Marlinton Elementary school as well as all other schools in Pocahontas County have the distinct honor of being recognized by the West Virginia Department of Education as a Purple Star school.
West Virginia Department of Education, the West Virginia Board of Education, United States military organizations and other entities serving West Virginia developed the Common Ground Partnership which works to advance the success of all students. Their programs support students pursuing healthy lifestyles, achieving economic prosperity, and reaching their full potential as citizens.
The Purple Star Award is designed to recognize schools that create a military-friendly environment and make a special commitment to supporting the resilience of military connected children. Pocahontas County strives to support our active and retired military and assist our military children in any way possible.
