Make-up test dates are May 21 and May 22. The flyer also includes tips for families to support students during testing and encouragement messages for students.”
Good evening, Timberwolf families.
Here are your updates for the week.

The General Summative Assessment, or GSA, begins this week. Please help your child be successful by making sure they get plenty of rest, arrive at school on time, and eat a healthy breakfast. Encourage them to take their time, read each question carefully, and simply do their best. A positive mindset and reassurance from home make a big difference.

Testing will begin with third grade math on Wednesday, May 6. Fifth grade will take ELA on Thursday, May 7, followed by writing on Friday, May 8.

We also want to share an attendance update. Our attendance rate last week was 94%, which is great progress. However, 27% of our students are currently considered chronically absent. Being at school every day matters, and even a few missed days can have a big impact on learning. We need your help to lower this number by prioritizing daily attendance whenever possible.

Finally, this week is Staff Appreciation Week. We are truly blessed to have some of the best staff in Pocahontas County, and we appreciate all they do every single day for our students.

Thank you for your continued support, and have a great evening.

The picture shows eight students seated on indoor staircase steps inside a school building. The students are arranged in two rows and are wearing matching gray T‑shirts that read “Marlinton Elementary School – Timberwolves – Battle of the Books.” The shirts feature colorful book graphics that represent the academic competition. The staircase has white wooden paneling and railings, with maroon-colored steps. The setting and matching shirts suggest this image was taken to recognize participation in the Battle of the Books academic team or event.
🎉 Celebrating All of Our Regional Math Field Day Participants! 🎉

We are so proud of every student who represented our schools at the Regional Elementary/Middle (Including 9th Grade) Math Field Day. Students from all of our schools came together to take on a challenging and highly competitive event that showcased their problem-solving skills, perseverance, and passion for math. 🧠📐

The competition was fierce, with many students separated by just a single point in the final standings—proof of the incredible depth of talent across our region. Every participant should be applauded for the effort, focus, and determination they brought to the day.

A special acknowledgment goes to Eli, Joseph, and Noah, who were selected as alternates for the Statewide Competition!

👏 Congratulations to every student, coach, teacher and school involved! 👏

Earlier today at Pocahontas County High School, a belt on a compressor heating unit in the band room malfunctioned. As a precaution, the school initiated a fire safety drill and evacuated students to the auditorium while the fire department was contacted. The fire department has since assessed the situation and confirmed that there is no ongoing risk. All students have safely returned to their classrooms, and normal operations have resumed. At this time, the school’s phone system is temporarily down but is expected to be restored to full service shortly. Thank you
