📚 Pocahontas County Schools Stakeholders Meeting

Pocahontas County Schools held its first Stakeholders Meeting on September 22nd, 2026, in the Media Center at Pocahontas County High School.

Organized by Superintendent Dr. Leatha Williams, the stakeholder group brings together a diverse group of voices from across our community, including parents, faculty, administrators, Board of Education members, community members, and local organizations.

The purpose of the group is to strengthen collaboration between our schools and the community, identify shared priorities, and work together to create meaningful opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and succeed.

During the inaugural meeting, members participated in an engaging discussion focused on developing goals and a mission statement that will help guide the group’s work and support the continued success of Pocahontas County students.

We are excited about the ideas, perspectives, and partnerships this group will bring to our schools and community! Together, we can continue working toward a bright future for our students.

🍎 Pocahontas County Schools is Off to a Roaring Start for the 2026-2027 School Year! 🎉

The excitement of a new school year is in the air, and our teachers, principals, and support staff have already been hard at work preparing for student success. Last week was filled with meaningful professional learning opportunities focused on ensuring every student has the tools and support needed to thrive.

A dedicated group of our K-5 educators, principals, and support staff participated in Science of Reading training, strengthening instructional practices that help all students reach grade-level reading expectations by third grade. Literacy remains a top priority, and we are committed to providing our students with the strongest possible foundation for future success.

In addition, I had the opportunity to travel to Charleston with Ms. Stephanie Burns to review the newly released West Virginia Writing Rubrics for grades 3-8. These important instructional resources will help teachers support student growth in writing and ensure our students are well-prepared for future academic and career opportunities.

As we move through the school year, our goal is to host family engagement opportunities at each school to share information about literacy, writing, student achievement, and college and career readiness. We believe that strong partnerships between schools, families, and the community are essential to student success, and we look forward to keeping everyone informed and engaged.

While the first day of school is one of my favorite days of the year, I don't always get the opportunity to see all the wonderful photos of students arriving at our schools. I'd love to celebrate this exciting time with you! Pocahontas County Schools announcement: Two Pocahontas County Board of Education policies are available for public comment: Policy 2371, HOPE Scholarship Program, and Policy 9270, Home School Instruction. The public comment period ends August 28, 2026. Comments may be submitted through the Policy page on the district website or at https://tinyurl.com/PCS-Policies.
We have received notification from MonPower that the planned power outage for 7/7 has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for another day. Summer programming will continue as planned and staff will remain in there regular locations. We apologize for any inconvenience.
